And yeah, I am really proud of the way I utilized values here - going from the lightest lights to darkest darks, in a pretty beautiful range. At that point in time I had the notion firmly implanted in my brain by my art teacher (kudos to her!) that I must not be afraid of bold variations between the two.

Thanks :) I've found over the years that if I plan ahead (get references for the subject matter), constrain my time and just GO and draw/paint, I'll get better results than painstakingly poring over every detail. This one's a clear demonstration of that idea. (and it's more fun that way too :P)
